Cambodia Gambling Halls
August 24th, 2026 by Shane

There is an appealing background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is banned. Eight casinos are based in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect area, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing capital acquired from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are ways around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open 24 hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel compound that contains a number of comforts in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 tables.
